Engagement Sessions – What to expect, What to ask & What to wear
Congratulations on your engagement! We are more than excited for you to start writing your own love story. It’s such an awesome time in your life right now! Wedding planning is in the air and you are probably wondering where to even begin. Time to contact venues, caterers, florists and of course, photographers for your big day ahead. When considering a photographer, consider this: This is the beginning of your life together. The pictures captured on this day are going to last a lifetime. They are going to bring back memories that were so easily forgotten over time & be passed down to your grandchildren in the future. So why an engagement session? This is the golden opportunity for you to meet and work with your photographer on a one-on-one basis before the whirlwind of your wedding day. It gives the opportunity for your photographer to get to know you as a couple, to be apart of your chemistry and learn how you work best when you are in front of the camera. Think of it as a trial run. It is normal to have questions regarding this session, so we wanted to give you a few tips to make the session run smoothly.
Location: The location of your engagement session is something that can be discussed with us prior to your shoot. Choosing a location can be as easy as a walk on the beach or in the park. If you are undecided on a location, consider the following as a guide to help you: Do you want your session to reflect the personalities of the two of you combined? Is this a styled shoot? (will there be props? i.e. a faux picnic) Would you like to shoot where you had your first date or first got engaged? Consider the time of day and lighting as well when choosing your location.
Wardrobe: When choosing your wardrobe, it’s important to think about where your shoot is being held and the overall look you want to achieve. For example, heels aren’t a practical choice for a walk on the beach and a bathing suit may not work for a city shoot. When considering what you and your love should wear, try to coordinate not only color palette, but also style of clothing. (urban, formal, casual, etc.) Although matching colors isn’t completely necessary, it does make for a more cohesive feel in the pictures if the colors or styles of clothing coordinate. If you are unsure of what you should wear, bring a few choices and we will be happy to lead you in the right direction for the look you are trying to achieve.
Keep in mind during your engagement shoot, that this is an opportunity for you and your love to get to know your photographer. This is a chance for you tell tell us who you are as a couple and make the shoot all about the two of you. The better we get to know you, the more comfortable you will feel working with us and the more we are able to meet your expectations for your shoot and your big day! This shoot is all about having fun, letting loose and capturing amazing moments that happen unexpectedly between the two of you. We are so honored to be apart of your wedding day and love the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with our clients getting to know them as a couple.
